The annual Puppet Animation Festival Puppeteer's Weekend took place on 6 April at the Scottish Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh.
Highlights included a performance of Storybox Theatre's production of The Tin Soldier, a lively seminar discussion on the future course of puppet theatre in Scotland and a performance by a Queen Margaret University College student company whose members are interested in becoming professional puppeteers. Along with these highlights were the usual opportunities for socialising and catching up with friends and colleagues.
Every Easter the Puppet Animation Festival provides events for the professional puppeteers appearing in that year's programme, to renew old friendships and make new ones. Supporters of the Festival, and anyone with a keen interest in puppetry, are also very welcome. Click here for details of previous events. Click Downloads to access notes from some of the seminars and workshops which have been programmed during past Puppeteers' Weekends.
Over the past eight years, from 1999 onwards, Puppet Animation Scotland has encouraged Scottish puppeteers to take part in its Scottish Puppetry Annual Surveys. Year by year these statistics have provided a detailed account of the number of performances and workshops created by practitioners and where – by area in the UK and type of venue – they have taken place.
